I never threatened to beat Afari Gyan – Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’ has denied threatening the chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) called on him at his office yesterday. The NPP yesterday met the EC chairman to follow up on a number of people whose names were omitted from the register in the region. Reports say Mr. Antwi Boasiako lost his anger when complaining about the high number of alleged NPP members whose names have been deleted from the EC register in the Ashanti Region. According to Chairman Wontumi, he would not allow the EC to intentionally disenfranchise several people in Ashanti Region during the 2016 election. “Don’t take any name from the Ashanti Regional register. You did it in 2012 and I swear I will not allow you to do it again in 2016, I swear you can’t do it” he warned Dr. Afari Gyan. Dr. Afari Gyan considered Wontumi’s accusation a threat on his life and has since reported the matter to the police. But Chairman Wontumi on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday insisted that he was only raising genuine concerns about his party. “I never threatened to beat Dr. Afari Gyan. We went there on a peaceful note. I am only concerned about their machines used for registration because to me I think their machines are faulty. “The machines cannot detect if a person did a multiple registration and so why must the EC still use those machines for voting” he quizzed.
